Getting Your Soul Back in the Gaming Industry
What does it take to get your soul back? What is the biggest driver of our industry? Is it the money? Is it the stability? Or is it our passion? We used to make games for others… not anymore. We almost died from giving up on our creativity, now we are fighting everyday to get it back, making our own stuff, one game at a time.
Laurent Grumiaux started his career in Liverpool, launching an ecommerce business with a friend selling limited edition signed rock star memorabilia. Back in Belgium, he worked for 3 years as a consultant in the digital sector before joining forces with Fishing Cactus in 2010 and starting his video game career. Within Fishing Cactus, Laurent has been mostly responsible for the business development side of the spectre amongst managing some of the company’s most iconic projects such as the After Burner Climax mobile port for Sega, and now the Multi Platform development of Shift Quantum. Laurent has also started working part time in 2017 for the R/O institute, a story telling incubator, helping talents create transmedia intellectual properties. Laurent will talk about the switch from being a third party developer to becoming producer of their own content, taking their faith into their own hands, taking back their soul and injecting it into their own projects.
